Pain & Gain, a true horror story
First of all, this story really happened. Obviously, it did not precisely occur like in the movie as it’s a comedic take on the story.
When I was watching Pain & Gain, and saw that they were saying it was a true story, I did not believe it. The stuff they pulled was painfully stupid. But it all happened, and my jaw dropped.
I’m not going to say too much about the story, as it will spoil the movie. However, I will leave a link to the true story by clicking here.
When I hear Michael Bay, I immediately lower my expectations. I’ve recently seen “6 Underground,” and it was terrible. Mostly because he has a style of filming that does not appeal to me: chicks, action, explosions, an annoying character, etc.
The events that happened are horrifying, but they give it a lighter comedic tone to it. Now, I understand this is offensive towards the victim because it is. Also, because Michael Bay wants you to like these characters, but they’re real-life killers. But somehow, I did enjoy this film.
I thought the film was funny, and Dwayne Johnson as a nice guy who believes in Jesus is hilarious. Not a lot of people would agree, but I can’t help it. The movie made me laugh. Before I’m continuing my review, I want to point out that I try to look at Pain & Gain as a movie, and not as a true story.
Now about Dwayne Johnson, his character was the only one I did sympathize with a bit. Although, a lot of it has to do with Dwayne’s portrayal. He makes you feel that this guy was a nice dumb guy that got mixed up in all these terrible events. I’m pretty sure that the real-life person wasn’t as nice as the rock. But all I’m saying is that I thought he did a great job of being funny.
Michael Bay made Pain & Gain purely for entertainment
Michael Bay’s main goal was to entertain people with a comedy. It was maybe not a good idea to take on a true story as the story for Pain & Gain. Be as it may, the movie’s purpose is to make you laugh.
It’s hard to sympathize with these characters of course as they’re bad guys. The events that they have to go through are entertaining to see. On the other hand, I would say that the movie was too long. It could have been thirty minutes shorter.
You also have these typical Michael Bay characters like strippers. And surprisingly, it didn’t annoy me this time. On the contrary, it worked in the movie’s favor.
I consider Pain & Gain to be a dumb funny dark comedy.
Pain & Gain is maybe an offensive take of a true story, but it’s entertaining. Michael Bay surprisingly made me laugh with this film. I would recommend giving this film a shot.
