First time watching the Notebook

The Notebook was one of those movies I hadn’t seen yet, but I didn’t want to watch it alone. Now, I recently watched it with my girlfriend as it’s a perfect movie for a date.

I had quite high expectations as this film is really known for its romance. Although they were too high. The film is good, but it didn’t exceed my expectations. But once again, that doesn’t mean it was a terrible movie.

With that said, it’s still a beautiful story.

Social differences

It’s not the first film that has two lovers with different backgrounds. Although, The Notebook does it in its own way and differs from other films, and that’s a positive thing.

You’ve got Noah on one side, the boy from a poor family. And on the other hand, Allie from a wealthy family. Of course, Allie’s family wants her to find someone who is rich and has a bright future.

But before I go too fast, how Ryan Gosling can hit on a girl is fantastic. It’s a little bit of a bad boy attitude mixed with a lovesick look. It’s always lovely to see the boy trying to get the girl. Unfortunately, this was a little too fast, but understandable because otherwise, this movie would be too long. Shortly after, they were together.

However, that didn’t last long as her parents took her away to New York to study. Also, forcing her to leave him behind.

The Notebook

Usually, I avoid as much information as possible about the plot of a movie that I haven’t seen yet. Like this, I can enjoy my movie more since I don’t know too much. And this was also the case with The Notebook.

If you haven’t seen the Notebook, then I’ll recommend you to stop reading as there will be some spoilers.

Maybe a little embarrassing, but I didn’t really know why the film was named “The Notebook.” Now, of course, I understand why. And, I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. The Notebook was a smart addition, especially since it’s actually about an older man telling his love story to his wife, who has Alzheimer’s.

That is also what makes the film unique. I don’t know what it is with older people, but it’s incredibly cute when they’re still in love. That is especially the case since he’s doing everything he can to make her remember so he can regain her for a while. And above all, he was not planning on leaving her behind.

If I hadn’t seen this movie with my girlfriend, I probably would have shed tears in two different scenes. That one scene, in front of the children and where they asked their dad to leave her behind, to which he replied: That’s my sweetheart in there. This is my home now. That is just too sweet. And also, the last scene where they died together in bed. However, I always try to keep it together when I’m around people. Well, I’m too proud to cry in front of people. Can someone relate to that?

An other scene that was magnificent was the one with the gooses. That made me want to look it up if that place was any real because I would love to go there if it is.

Conclusion

I would recommend this film to anyone, both men and women. I know most guys will be reluctant to watch this movie, but you should watch it with your girlfriend or date. Then you’ll have an “excuse” like me.
