Bad Boys are back
I was looking forward to this film as the last one before this was in 2003. We are living in a fantastic time where we are getting all sorts of movies: new continuations, reboots, new concepts, films of streaming services, …
Some people complain about these, but I’m just excited we’re getting these films.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of Bad Boys, storywise. Or even filming wise. It’s really more about seeing Will Smith and Martin Lawrence together on a screen. Their chemistry is the “Bad Boys” most prominent selling point. You can tell by watching this film, they had a lot of fun.
New Belgian directors
The first two “bad boys” movies were directed by Michael Bay.
Bad Boys for Life is directed by two Belgians (with Maroccan roots,) Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. I live in Belgium, so I was excited to see how they were going to deliver their first Hollywood movie.
They did make other movies in Belgium. Click here if you want to know more about them.
Adil and Billal did an excellent job. They actually maintained some Michael Bay directing style. Usually, I’m not a Michael Bay fan, but I can appreciate that they wanted to honor him by mixing their style with his.
Hopefully, we will see those two again in a lot of new projects.
Bad Boys for Life
I think that most people want to see Will Smith and Martin Lawrence back on one screen again. It’s great to see them still working together.
People watch “Bad Boys for Life” for pure entertainment. This film succeeds in what it attempts to be. I was surprised that I enjoyed it because I wasn’t totally sold by the trailers.
The jokes were hilariously funny, the action was great, and for once they had a mesmerizing villain. There was more dept to him compared to the previous ones.
I honestly thought it was better than the first two films. It was also the most emotional movie of the three. Some events that happen were more personal to their character. That’s why Bad Boys for Life stand out more.
They also address that they are not really “boys” anymore, as they are in their 50s. Marcus, for example, becomes a grandfather and wants to go on retirement. Mike, on the other hand, does not want to go on retirement, when he is targeted by the main villain, he asks Marcus to team up with him for “one last time.”
I will keep this simple.
Do you want to have a great time with some good action and a lot of laughs? Go watch Bad Boys for life. Are you a fan of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence? Then, what are you waiting for?
